Join us at this hands-on fiber arts demonstration with members of the Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore. Wool, cotton, flax, and silk all begin as raw fibers that must be spun before they become cloth. Watch traditional spinning techniques using both spinning wheels and hand-held tools such as supported and drop spindles and see how weaving on a standard floor loom can create a variety of patterns from a simple setup. Visitors are warmly invited to watch and try spinning or weaving for themselves.

Please note that some waiting time may be involved for the hands-on experience due to the limited availability of one loom and one spinning wheel.

The Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and the advancement of weaving and fiber arts. Founded in 1948, it brings together over 300 members from across the Mid-Atlantic region who connect through monthly meetings, lectures, and shared resources, including an extensive fiber arts library. The Guild also offers workshops, classes, a weaving school, and community programs that support learning, collaboration, and public engagement in fiber arts.

For free events, Sandy Spring Museum limits each registration to two people.
