Indian woodblock printing

Discover the vibrant tradition of Indian woodblock printing with artist and educator Trisha Gupta. Through engaging, hands-on workshops, Trisha introduces participants to traditional Indian woodblock printing and other Asian printmaking techniques, blending history and culture education with creative expression. Print on paper or fabric—the choice is yours. Or, bring Trisha to your event and let your guests print their own party favor!

Trisha Gupta is a multidisciplinary artist based in Burtonsville, MD who has been a part of Sandy Spring Museum’s community for years. She is inspired by traditions, in her words, “not all necessarily from my own culture.” She specializes in Asian printmaking styles, including Indian woodblock carving and printing which she studied in her home of Rajasthan in India. She also has a passion for creating and using natural dyes from materials like indigo and turmeric.

Community engagement and activism is at the heart of Trisha’s work. She cohosted the event “Build a Longer Table” at the museum held just before Thanksgiving in November 2019, which brought together refugee and immigrant families for a night of food, artmaking, and community. She also presented a solo art exhibit Neurodiversity: Biodiversity in spring 2022 that featured over 50 pieces of her work exploring how mental health and neurodiversity is treated socially and medically.
