Wenhong Luo, Director of Folklife

Wenhong Luo is an anthropologist, folklorist, and museum practitioner with a decade of rich experience in the field of cultural heritage and preservation. Her journey began at an ethnographic museum in China, where she collaborated closely with local minority ethnic groups, playing a pivotal role in researching, preserving, and promoting their unique cultural narratives

Currently, Wenhong serves as the Director of Folklife and Community Engagement at the Sandy Spring Museum, an institution designated by the Maryland State Arts Council as the Regional Folklife Center for Montgomery County, also a place that “connects diverse communities and advances social equity through shared and inspiring experiences of our region’s cultural heritage.” At Sandy Spring Museum, Wenhong continues her mission of championing diverse cultural voices, ensuring that the rich tapestry of regional folklife is celebrated and shared with the wider community.

In addition to her professional roles, Wenhong is also pursuing a PhD in museology at the Fudan University, further deepening her academic and practical understanding of the field. Meanwhile, as an Asian immigrant residing in Montgomery County, her personal and professional experiences converge to offer a unique perspective on the importance of cultural representation, equity, and inclusivity.
